The emergence of Memphis as a modern airfreight transportation hub has transformed this northern Mississippi town near Memphis International Airport and FedEx headquarters. The city's population has quintupled from under 10,000 people 40 years ago to more than 50,000 today, making it the third-largest city in the state.

The area enjoys a good mix of white-collar jobs, as well as opportunities for drivers, warehouse workers and other folks who keep America's freight moving. Many of these employees choose to live in Southaven because of its low crime rate and good schools.
