But it's civic pride -- not famous residents and multimillion-dollar homes -- that defines Scarsdale these days. Locals have invested heavily in the six-and-a-half square mile town, and it shows. Concerned citizens have inspired superb public golf, tennis and swimming facilities, a ritzy new residential complex for seniors and a nationally renowned school system -- more than 90% of Scarsdale kids attend public school, and 99% go on to college.
