Four years before Antonio Zambelli settled in New Castle, fellow countryman Constantino Vitale landed there from Naples to create a better life for himself. He also happened to love fireworks. The Vitale family still plays with explosives there -- they just happen to be a lot bigger, and they call their company Pyrotecnico.
If you go to the local Subway, chances are you'll see Pyrotecnico and Zambelli employees eating side-by-side, claims CEO Steven Vitale. The close proximity to one of his biggest rivals creates a healthy air of competition that he says "keeps us on our toes."
With loyal customers -- one has used his company's services for more than 40 years -- Vitale feels pretty confident about Pyrotecnico's future. "We have a consistent client base," he notes. "But the ultimate client is the audience." Vitale says Pyrotecnico relies on passion and imagination to lock down shows and beat out its rivals.
