John Lennon's last car
John Lennon's last car

"Baby, you can drive my car," the Beatles once sang. In this case, you're going to have to bid on it first.

This 1979 Mercedes, once owned by Lennon and now possessed by an anonymous owner in Florida, is heading for the auction block. A station wagon might not seem like an appropriate rig for a rock star, but Lennon had two sons at the time and would have been considered a family man.

The starting bid is $70,000 and the auctioneer hopes to bring in as much as $300,000. As the Beatles would say, "I got no car and it's breaking my heart, but I found a driver and that's a start."
