Although Vegas is most known for late night entertainment, luxury stores and high-stakes gambling there's no shortage of inexpensive things for even families to do too.
For starters, score a major discount at one of the many properties jockeying for guests. Even high-end hotels have done some dramatic price drops, making an over night stay in sin city surprisingly affordable.
Swan recommends the Circus Circus right in the middle of the strip, where rates start below $70 a night and there are plenty of activities for kids, like daily circus shows and America's largest indoor theme park.
Swan also suggests a walk along the strip to see the fountain show outside the Bellagio hotel and the African lions and cubs at MGM Grand, then hearing an inexpensive concert at House of Blues and dining at Ellis Island, which boasts one of the best deals in town -- a $7 steak dinner that includes a 10-ounce sirloin, salad, garlic green beans, potatoes and beer.
Amy Graff, Best Western's family travel expert, also recommends the $8 green papaya salad at Lotus of Siam, two miles off the beaten path where most restaurants, hotels and shops are significantly less expensive.
