Abigail Harris has been taking her 17-year-old son, Alex, to Black Friday sales since he was about three. This year, they braved the cold, for 10 hours outside a Target store in Northern New Jersey.
"I have a Christmas Club that I pay into all year. My son pays about $5 a week into it for the months leading up to Thanksgiving, and I do a little bit more -- about $25 a week," Harris said. "It teaches him to save and then at the end, you have a reward -- you get the check in the mail. It's a nice way to save money for big ticket items and it works, as long as you're consistent."
This year, they were second in line and hoping to score a sweet deal on a 46-inch TV.
"I don't have a budget really, I just go by the deals," she said.
Starting Black Friday, two U.S. malls will track guests' movements by monitoring the signals from their cell phones.
