William Calvert was already a fashion industry staple, thanks to the successful women's couture line he developed in his own name in 1998.
But when business exec Melanie Fraser Hart approached him about creating a new line for the modern "every-woman," Calvert jumped at the chance to expand beyond designing expensive gowns for private clients.
Callula Lillibelle, named in honor of Hart's daughter, was launched in February 2010. The aim was to create classic pieces that embrace the beauty of the female figure, yet are appropriate enough to carry women through each part of their day -- from office to cocktail party and back home.
"We want to be inclusive rather than exclusive," Calvert said. "And we want to make clothes for every cool girl, regardless of her shape."
Calvert and Hart's efforts have been successful thus far, as they've managed to double sales every season. The contemporary line is priced for retail at $100 to $600 a piece and is currently available in boutiques around the world.
