Teen Vogue magazine crowned her "The Cookie Queen," and style expert Robert Verdi called her all-natural sugar cookies "fabulous!" Inspired by artists like Goya and Tim Burton, Crystal Horton's seasonal offerings for Halloween include the traditional holiday icons, such as mummies, black cats, and jack-o-lanterns and most currently, works of art like these fearsome gargoyles.
"Halloween kicks off my busy season," she said. "Companies use them for promotion at events and thank-you gifts for their clients. The gift boxes sell well." A custom design from Tasty Morsels Bakery can cost from $5 to $75 a cookie, depending on the size and the complexity of the art.
"I created classic monsters cookies that were about 10 inches tall for one client's Halloween event," said Horton. "It was pricey, but her guests really enjoyed them."
This year, Horton has seen a steady increase in sales, and expects that this Halloween will be no different. "It's the season to release your inner child, to dress up, play, and indulge in decadent Halloween treats."
