The U.S., Europe and parts of Asia -- especially Japan -- light up with shared messages and photos, but vast swathes of the world remain comparatively off the grid.
"Getting the visual balance right was difficult, especially on the world map," Fischer says. " A lot of it is still darker than I would like but looks better than it originally did. The city maps did not require as much adjustment, but I still had to sacrifice some detail to get them to be bright enough."
These hotspots have smart labor, solid infrastructure, and lots of customers.
