Born Ian Grocher in St. Croix and raised in Miami, DJ Irie, 36, has turned a case of mistaken identity into a hip, hot brand. In 1993 a student asked the Florida International University freshman to deejay a party; back then Irie was just a keen record collector, but he improvised his way into a club gig that led, six years later, to his being hired by the NBA's Miami Heat as the first personal deejay for a pro sports team. Today Irie owns a thriving talent-management company, hosts a top-rated radio show, has endorsement deals with Heineken and Verizon, and works and plays with LeBron James, Jamie Foxx, and Drake.
