Despite the complicated inner workings, everything from desktop and laptop computers to modems and circuit boards are counterfeited surprisingly well in China along side the real thing.

"These are pretty sophisticated knock-offs," noted Katherine Hutt, a spokesperson for the Council of Better Business Bureaus. But "they often don't come in the same packaging with the support documentation and they're not going to last as long or may not work at all," she said.
