As vice president for a commercial construction trade association, Kathy Heatherton was constantly on the go, taking weekly business trips. In 2005, she began scaling back her hours, working part-time three days a week. And for the last two years, Heatherton, now a quality assurance coordinator, has been working 10 hours a week from home.
It's been a challenge, she says, to get colleagues accustomed to her new role. But her current schedule enables her and her husband Mike to go to the gym every morning and volunteer at a local food bank.
"Working a few hours a day three days a week, I can golf, give back to our community or spend a day doing nothing but working in my garden," she says.
