1969: Queen of the Skies

paris air show

No one had ever seen a jetliner like this before.

In 1969, just months after its maiden flight, Boeing (BA) flew its test model 747-100 to the Paris Air Show. The widebody airliner went on to become an industry icon.

The 747 is still produced today in the form of the 747-8. The first hump-backed, semi-double decker seated more passengers than any previous airliner: up to 452. The jumbo's record as the largest airliner stood for 37 years until Airbus introduced the A380.
