These six couples share what it's like to raise money through crowdfunding web sites for adoptions and fertility treatments.
Nicole Radtke, an adoption social worker, and her husband Bill always thought they would adopt a child someday. But when they found out they couldn't have kids on their own, they realized that day had come sooner than expected.
"We thought we would have to go into debt," Nicole Radtke said.
After learning about AdoptTogether, the couple set up a fundraising page, frequently updating donors on the highs and lows of their adoption journey.
From finding out that the first birth mother they were matched with had backed out to taking their son Manny home from the hospital in October, the couple documented everything.
"People love being a part of his life," she said. "They love seeing him at church and meeting him. It really is like a big family for him."
