Travelocity's American Express Rewards card can be used to rack up points for most travel-related charges.
Accruing points: Members can choose between two cards: One with no annual fee and with an annual fee of $39 that offers bigger rewards.
Travelers get three points for every dollar spent on Travelocity's site and one point for every dollar spent on all other purchases.
For a limited time, the travel site is offering 5,000 points after you make your first purchase with the card. You can earn another 5,000 if you spend $1,000 within 90 days of opening the account.
Redeeming points: Points can be redeemed for credits when you book flights, eligible hotels, and package deals on Travelocity's site. 5,000 points can be redeemed for $50 in statement credit; 10,000 points is worth $100; and 20,000 points get $400 back.
Expiration: Points expire 48 months from the last date you book travel using your rewards.
What makes it a deal: Rewards members can receive points for non-travel credit card purchases and can redeem the points for non-travel purposes like gift cards and merchandise, said Kelly. There are also no blackout dates.
The drawback: The program relies on an American Express card, which is not accepted at some merchants and restaurants, said Kelly. APRs on the credit card start at 15% and run as high as 25%.
