It's already the world's largest drug maker, but Pfizer's $68 billion acquisition of Wyeth makes it a true giant, with annual revenues that are expected to be 55% higher than No. 2 GlaxoSmithKline. Pfizer's bane continues to be impending patent expirations for blockbuster drugs - especially Lipitor in 2011 - without anything to fill the gaps.

Last summer Pfizer stopped its practice of funding medical-education courses taught by third parties, as a response to critics who say drugmakers exert unethical influence on physicians. - J.Y.
