(FORTUNE Magazine) - Panamanians will vote later this year on a referendum to spend $5.25 billion and add a wider third lane to their canal by 2014. That won't ease congestion now, though. A record 93 ships were waiting as long as five days to cross the Panama Canal in late April, with captains bidding as much as $127,000 in a new online auction for a spot at the head of the line. |
