The best-dressed business traveler
(Fortune Magazine) -- You might call Ermenegildo "Gildo" Zegna a sartorial emissary. His mission? To carry Italian elegance to all corners of the world. Since taking over the family business ten years ago, the third-generation fashion mogul has transformed his grandfather's luxury menswear company into a global brand with boutiques from São Paulo to Shanghai. The co-CEO (he holds the post with cousin Paolo) recently shared a few travel secrets. DAYS ON THE ROAD: 100. FAVORITE WAY TO FLY: I fly Alitalia as much as possible. When I go overseas, Swiss Air is a very civilized way to fly: good aircraft, extremely punctual, good service. AIR WEAR: Our travel blazer. The fabric is wrinkle-free, so it's fantastic for traveling. And there's an extra pocket for a BlackBerry, which is my traveling companion. FAVORITE PLACES TO STAY: I like hotels where you feel the local traditions, like the Okura hotel in Tokyo. In Milan, I recommend the Bulgari hotel, and in Florence, Hotel Lungarno, which belongs to the Ferragamo family. VACATION SPOT: St. Moritz for sure, and not only to ski. I like to hike, and there are two beautiful golf courses. BEST MEAL: In Milan, Da Giacomo and Al Porto serve the best frittura di pesce. OLD FAVORITE: Gino on Lexington Avenue in New York. It reminds me of my days at Bloomingdale's in the late 1970s, when I'd go there for dinner with friends. DON'T MISS: Lorenzi, a beautiful shop on Via Montenapoleone in Milan. They have all sorts of gadgets a man might want. |
