FORTUNE's annual ranking of America's leading businesswomen
María Aramburuzabala de Garza Rank: 14 (2004 rank: 11)
Company: Grupo Modelo Based in: Mexico Title: Vice Chairman
The most powerful businesswoman in Latin America, Aramburuzabala, 42, added to her trophies this year by marrying the U.S. ambassador to Mexico. But her accomplishments at Grupo Modelo, the company co-founded by her grandfather that controls about 60% of the Mexican beer market, are equally impressive. In the ten years since stepping into a management role after her father's death, Aramburuzabala has been the driving force behind the company (which makes Corona beer), more than doubling its annual revenue, to $4 billion, and selling a stake to Anheuser-Busch. She also diversified the family fortune into media, banking, and real estate.

Highest pay
These women are among the highest paid in corporate America. All of them are employed by companies with over $1 billion in sales that filed proxies by September 1, 2005.
Newcomer Charlene Begley heads up GE's plastics division and is the youngest of this group at age 39. She bumped last year's youngest gun, Citigroup CFO Sallie Krawcheck, now 40. But, on average, the Power 50 are in their late 40s.
