Customers Including Heineken Netherlands and BioWare at VMworld 2010 to Explain Benefits of Fluid Data Storage in VMware Virtualization, Cloud Environments

Compellent (NYSE: CML) will enable end-users to manage its Fluid Data™ storage solution from the VMware® vSphere™ 4.1 client, building upon the foundation of Compellent and VMware virtualization to enable automated, scalable and cost-effective data centers and cloud services.

At VMworld 2010 in San Francisco, executives from Compellent, VMware and Heineken Netherlands will host a Super Session to describe how virtualization and tiered storage enables a high-performance, flexible and cost-effective data center for critical applications. Additionally, end-users from BioWare, Biola University, Alphastaff and Aethion will lead breakout sessions and roundtables and answer questions in the Compellent booth.

vSphere 4.1 Client Plug-In Simplifies Virtual Storage Management

The Compellent plug-in for VMware vSphere 4.1 allows vSphere users to efficiently manage Compellent virtualized pools of storage resources. From the VMware vSphere 4.1 client, Compellent users will be able to perform everyday tasks such as:

  • Provision, resize or expand volumes as business needs demand
  • Configure storage and VM hosts
  • Replicate VM datastore volumes for disaster recovery
  • Clone volumes to accelerate test and development
  • View virtual storage statistics

Compellent expects to ship the vSphere 4.1 client plug-in in Q4. The company will also continue development of a new plug-in for VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) with plans to deliver features such as Full Copy Offload, Block Zeroing and Scalable Lock Management for enterprises and cloud services.

"Compellent is committed to providing end-users with unparalleled simplicity in managing virtualized data storage in enterprise and cloud environments," said Bruce Kornfeld, vice president of alliances and business development, Compellent. "The VMware vSphere client addition will work hand-in-hand with Compellent's proven automated tiered storage, thin provisioning, continuous snapshots and thin replication technologies to enable self-managing, highly-scalable storage as the core for virtualized or cloud data centers."
