12. Ho Ching
Executive Director and CEO, Temasek Holdings
2005 rank: 11 Singapore It has been a rocky year for the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the chief executive of Singapore's state investment arm, Temasek. In March her effigy was burned in Bangkok by protesters angered by their Prime Minister's tax-free sale of his family telecom company to Ho's Temasek. The furor paved the way to a coup and a 43% fall in the deal's value. But Temasek's $100 billion portfolio, which includes Singapore Airlines, banks in Indonesia, and telcos in Australia, reported a 70% increase in profits.
