Some of the best fall savings can be found in parts of Florida where hurricanes have hit in recent years. These destinations are trying to lure travelers back with discounts.
In the Florida Keys, hard hit by Hurricane Wilma last year, prices are an average 25% lower during the off-season even though the region has completed a significant cleanup effort, according to the Cheaptickets.com Off-Season Deals Report.
The four-star Palms South Beach in Miami Beach already has a prime oceanfront location - so pass on the "room with a view," and the fall savings add up even more. "City view" room rates bottom out at $96 in late October, but the same rooms go for $515 between Christmas and New Year's.
And if you have young kids who aren't in school yet, the first three weeks of December between Thanksgiving and Christmas are a perfect time to experience Disney World in Orlando. The weather is spring-like and you'll find some of the shortest lines of the year for rides.
