Democrats have always had a soft spot for environment, and their takeover of Congress could also be favorable for the alternative energy sector and environmental clean-up industry.

ISI's Leperriere points at the environmental engineering outfit Tetra Tech Inc. and the Denmark-based wind power firm Vestas as companies that stand to gain in event of a Democratic win.

While greater incentives for alternative energy might emerge with Democrats in control of the House, Goldman Sachs' Phillips and Berwick warn that those proposals could be difficult to enact if the GOP holds onto the Senate or if President Bush employs his veto power.
