NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
The second Chevy Super Sport Roadster to come off the assembly line will be auctioned on eBay the week of April 25. Bidding will start at $50,000, and proceeds from the auction will benefit the Society of Automotive Engineers Foundation.
The first 25 SSRs produced will be what Chevrolet calls the "Signature Series." The first is destined for display in the museum of Chevrolet parent company General Motors (GM: Research, Estimates). The SSR is a combination roadster and pickup truck.

The Signature SSRs will have a unique blue-purple color and will bear a small plaque between the seats bearing the signatures of two or more people involved in the creation of the new model.
The No. 2 vehicle, donated by General Motors to the SAE Foundation for the auction, will bear the signatures of five individuals: Rick Wagoner, GM president and CEO; Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman; Gary Cowger, GM group vice president and president of GM North America; Wayne Cherry, GM vice president for design; and David Treadwell, ASC Inc. chairman.

The SSR to be auctioned has a four-speed automatic transmission and a 5.3 liter V8 engine producing an estimated 285 horsepower. Like all Chevy SSRs, it also features a retractable hard-top that folds in two and slips behind the passenger seat and a removable hard top for the truck bed.
The auction will last for 10 days, running from April 25 to May 4.
"It's our hope that we'll be able to get as much as possible to help support this award," said Sue Cardillo, principal at McMahon and Cardillo and spokeswoman for the SAE Foundation. "It's highly collectible, and we're hoping it will bring in an excess of $100,000."
The SAE Foundation, which will auction the car to raise money for its Heinz C. Prechter Award for Automotive Excellence, donates funds and establishes programs to promote science and technology education. The Heinz C. Prechter Award honors the memory of the founder of American Sunroof Co., who died in July 2001.

The remaining 23 Signature Series Chevy SSRs will be used for promotional activities, such as motor sports and community arts events, before being sold at a dealer auction, said Chevy spokesman Tom Wilkinson.
When the 23 are eventually sold, they will include a documented history of the vehicle and a scrapbook including photos of where it has been since it rolled off the lot. The promotions likely will run through the summer, making the remainder of the signature series available for sale in the late summer to early fall timeframe. Chevy anticipates each of the vehicles in the series to pull in around $100,000.
Regular production of the roadsters is scheduled to begin in July, with the vehicles arriving at dealerships for sale in late July or August. The base model will cost $41,995.
