NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Chivas Brothers is selling $10,000 bottles of 50-year-old Scotch whisky to mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
The company said Thursday it is bottling a very limited quantity of the Scotch, to be known as Royal Salute, and only 10 bottles will be sold in the United States. The 10 bottles arrived in New York this week aboard the ocean liner QE ll.
A typical bottle of Chivas Regal Scotch is 12 years old and sells for about $61. The company had created a 21-year-old Scotch in 1953 to mark the coronation of Elizabeth II, and started planning for the 50-year-old blend at that time.
Chivas isn't skimping on the bottle for Royal Salute, either. The deep-blue porcelain flagon's label includes both silver and 24-karat gold.
