NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - A key April consumer sentiment report was revised higher, according to published reports, coming in higher than economists' estimates.
The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index for April was revised up to 94.2 from an initial reading of 93.2, according to sources quoted by Reuters. The survey is available only to paying subscribers. Economists, on average, expected a sentiment reading of 94, according to Briefing.com.
The reading came in at 95.8 in March.
Consumer spending is a crucial component of the U.S. economy as it comprises two-thirds of gross domestic product for the world's largest economy.
The current conditions index fell to 105.0 in April from 106.8 in March, while the consumer expectations component inched down to 87.3 from 88.8 last month, Reuters reported.
