McDonald's Corp. Monday said May comparable sales at its restaurants rose 7.9 percent, citing the success of its new menu offerings.
The Oak Brook, Ill.-based No. 1 fast-food chain said its same-store sales worldwide for the month rose 9.2 percent, the company's highest increase since 1984.
"These outstanding sales increases demonstrate that consumers are responding positively to our better tasting food, new menu offerings, energetic, targeted marketing and improved operations and service," Charlie Bell, McDonald's President and chief executive officer said in a statement.

Analysts had forecast U.S. same-store sales to rise in the mid-single-digit percentage range, and those in Europe to be up in the low-single-digit percentage range.
Shares of McDonald's rose 34 cents to $26.86 on Friday.
