Kerry Edwards is offering to sell his domain name, asking $150,000, report says.

New York (CNN/Money) - Sometimes it's good to be Kerry Edwards.

No, not the two men running for office, but a one Kerry Edwards from Indianapolis who, three years ago, needing a place to post pictures of his children for their grandparents, registered the domain name kerryedwards.com.

Of course, now he's ready to cash in.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Edwards is putting his domain name up for auction, with a starting bid of $150,000.

Held through the U.S. unit of the German Internet address broker Sedo GMBH, the auction is expected to be completed in two weeks.

According to the newspaper, a spokeswoman for Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, said Republicans could use the site, which already gets 50,000 hits a day, to post information critical of Sen. John Kerry and Sen. John Edwards. And the uses to the Democrats are obvious.

But the report said neither political party was interested in buying the space, saying they were happy with their own addresses and citing the costly price tag.

But as Edwards said he has already received calls from independent groups on both sides of the aisle, it's unlikely the site will remain apolitical for long.

Edwards told the newspaper he plans to use funds from the sale to pursue a business degree for himself and send his son to college.  Top of page
