NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
Internet portal Yahoo! named Lloyd Braun the head of its media and entertainment division Tuesday, giving the former ABC executive control over the company's movies, TV, music, games and business content.
Braun served as chairman of the ABC Entertainment Television Group from Jan. 2002 until April 2004, and he oversaw the production of several hit shows, including "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Alias."
"The combination of Lloyd's extensive business and deal-making experience, deep and long-standing relationships in the entertainment and media industries, and his proven creative instincts makes him the ideal person to realize the full potential of Yahoo!'s media and entertainment offerings," Yahoo! COO Dan Rosensweig said in a statement.
The addition of Braun continues Yahoo!'s recruitment of high-profile Hollywood executives as it looks to expand its offerings of paid services. In 2001, the company named former Warner Bros. Chairman Terry Semel as its CEO.
Shares of Yahoo! (Research) gained 33 cents, or 0.89 percent, to $37.25 in before-hours trading Tuesday.
