NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
Seton Hall University said Thursday it has removed the name of L. Dennis Kozlowski from an academic building that has borne his name since 1997.
Kozlowski asked for his name to be removed during a telephone conversation with Seton Hall University President Monsignor Robert Sheeran in late July, the university said in a statement.
Sheeran said that Kozlowski, who graduated from Seton Hall in 1968, made the request to spare the university from adverse attention.
The former Tyco CEO was found guilty in New York State Supreme Court in June of stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the manufacturing conglomerate. He faces up to 30 years in prison. Sentencing has been delayed until mid-September.
He donated $3 million to Seton Hall between August 1997 and August 2000, the statement said.
The building currently houses the Stillman School of Business and the College of Education and Human Services, the university said. It will now be called Jubilee Hall in recognition of the university's 150th anniversary this year.
Kozlowski's name was also removed from the rotunda in the university's library.
