Three stocks worth buying
Motorola is a buying opportunity; Capital One is on a roll; and Watson is the smart drug play.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Here's three to ponder this Monday ...

MOTOROLA: This story made me laugh. Cingular and T-Mobile said they are halting sales of Moto's redhot Razr phone because it drops its signal and loses calls. Oh, and this is different from any other cell phone? Apparently it's a limited number of phones sold just this year and Motorola says the Razr will be back in stores in a matter of days. Still MOT's stock (Research) is down by almost 2 percent this morning. Puh-lease! Can you say buying opportunity? This stock is up from $8 to almost $25...now down to $22. If you missed it, might be an entry point.

CAPITAL ONE: It's buying North Fork bank for $14.6 billion. Yes it's at a 23 percent premium, but I still like Capital One, and not just for its crazy ad campaigns. (Exhibit #1: Visigoths. Exhibit #2: David Spade.) For one thing North Fork (Research) stock was actually pretty cheap ... had a P/E of less than 13 before the deal was announced. The even bigger point though is that the credit card business is rapidly consolidating and obviously COF (Research) is one of the consolidators, not a consolidatee. When all is said and done, scale matters here. It will help them drive down costs. I know all about the stretched American consumer and rising credit risks ... that's all priced in the stock. This one makes sense for the long haul.

WATSON PHARMACEUTICALS: So many deals today, you might have missed this one. Watson, a maker of generic drugs, is buying rival Andrx for about $1.9 billion. This deal too carries a premium and Andrx stock is up briskly this morning. (Andrx (Research) sells mostly to pharmacies and physicians' offices). Watson (Research) will be by some estimates the Number Three in this business, and it will have a nice medicine chest of drugs including: antidepressants, anti-diabetics, analgesics, oral contraceptives, anti-hypertensives, anti-anxiety products, antibiotics, anti-infective systems, antihistamine products, and smoking cessation aids -- plus Andrx's meds like Entex cold and cough meds. Whew! Got that? To me traditional pharma is not a game you want to play in this environment. Go generics

Loose Change: So I went to see a flamenco show on Saturday night. A group called Noche Flamenca from Madrid at the public theaterin NYC. Wasn't sure what to expect but it was completely hot! If you get a chance to see these guys you should. http://www.nocheflamenca.com/..........Got your brackets done? How about Seton Hall? Do they belong? Playin' Witchadog State. Go Pirates!
