FDA approves alcoholism treatment
Two companies, Alkermes and Cephalon, get FDA green light for alcoholism treatment Vivitrol.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com staff writer) - The Food and Drug Administration approved Vivitrol, a treatment for alcoholism from two companies, Alkermes and Cephalon, the drug companies said. Vivitrol is meant to reduce the craving for alcohol and is injected once a month into alcoholics who are trying to quit drinking. Cephalon (up $0.48 to $60.20, Research) and Alkermes (up $0.89 to $21.96, Research) said the drug should be available in June 2006.
