Mortgage rates at nearly-4-year high
Average 30-year fixed-rate rises for third straight week to 6.49 percent from 6.43 percent in the prior week.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Mortgage rates rose for the third consecutive week, to the highest level in nearly four years, Freddie Mac said Thursday. The average rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages rose to 6.49 percent for the week ending April 13, up from the prior week's 6.43 percent, a Freddie Mac survey said. The level was the highest since the week of July 19, 2002.
The average rate on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages edged up to 6.14 percent from 6.10 percent last week. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 6.13 percent, up from 6.11 percent the prior week.
