NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A Saudi Arabian prince is selling his Aspen home for $135 million, a real estate agency said Wednesday - the highest asking price on record for a U.S. home.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, a former Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, has decided to part with his Colorado property, a representative from Joshua & Co., the real estate agency handling the sale, told CNNMoney.com. The representative would not give additional details.

Latest home prices

Earlier Wednesday, The Aspen Times reported that the Starwood Ranch property included a 56,000 square-foot main residence, which surpasses the White House in terms of square footage, and several smaller homes.

The main residence boasts 15 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms and an indoor swimming pool, the paper said.

Citing a statement Bandar made through his real-estate agent Joshua Saslove, the paper reported that Bandar said he decided to sell the property because he was spending too much time in Saudi Arabia to take advantage of his Aspen estate.

The asking price would surpass Donald Trump's $125 million estate in Palm Beach, Fla. as the most expensive home listing in the United States, according to the National Association of Realtors.

As for actual selling price, Ron Perelman currently holds the record - the billionaire sold his Palm Beach home in 2004 for $70 million, NAR said.
