CBS to hatch 35 million eggs in fall TV network will put slogans advertising its prime-time shows on millions of eggs via laser technology. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- CBS is launching a new advertising campaign by the carton this fall. Beginning in September, the network will print advertisements for its shows on more than 35 million eggs.
The eggs will be laser imprinted by EggFusion, a company that specializes in laser-coding expiration dates onto eggs sold by grocers. CBS (Charts) has emblazoned pun-laden advertising slogans like "CBS Mondays - Leave the Yolks to Us" and "Shark - Hard-Boiled Drama" on the eggs. "We recognize that viewers have busy lives and with 'egg-vertising' we have found a great way to reach them out of their homes and in their daily lives, but in a way that also brings the message back into their home - and literally onto the kitchen table," said George Schweitzer, president of the CBS Marketing Group, in a statement. CBS will also underwrite the printing of freshness expiration dates on the eggs. EggFusion was started five years ago by Bradley Parker, who was concerned that egg cartons might not always reflect the correct freshness date of the eggs within. Illinois-based EggFusion laser-stamps eggs with the expiration date and a traceability code that lets users see the history of the egg on the Web site MyFreshEgg.com. "EggFusion is thrilled to have CBS as the charter sponsor supporting freshness and traceability coding," said Parker, EggFusion's CEO, in a statement.
