UnitedHealth Group's Lois Quam Named One of FORTUNE's 50 Most Powerful Women
(Fortune) -- Lois Quam, CEO, Ovations of UnitedHealth Group (Charts), ranks No. 24 on Fortune's 2006 list of 50 Most Powerful Women. Charges of backdating options and a slumping stock have made for a tough year at UnitedHealth. Still, one of every five Medicare beneficiaries is a client of Ovations, the nation's largest provider of health services to the over-50 crowd. Thanks to growth and a big acquisition, revenues are expected to jump from $9.4 billion to more than $25 billion this year. By the key criteria Fortune uses in assembling its annual list - the size, importance, and health of each business in the global economy, and the momentum of each woman's career (along with her social and cultural influence) - there's no question that the power of women in the corporate sphere is rising. Indeed, it could be called the year of the Most Powerful Woman CEO. The top seven positions on Fortune's 2006 Most Powerful Women list are held by CEOs. They include: Anne Mulcahy, Xerox (Charts); Meg Whitman, eBay (Charts); Pat Woertz, ADM (Charts); Irene Rosenfeld, Kraft Foods (Charts); Brenda Barnes, Sara Lee (Charts); and Andrea Jung, Avon (Charts).
