Private nonfarm jobs post growth

Survey shows employment increased by 106,000 in March, in line with trends during the last three months.


NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Private sector nonfarm employment increased by 106,000 in March, in line with estimates, a tracking report shows.

The Automatic Data Processing Report showed the biggest employment gains in the service sector, which added 128,000 workers, according to seasonally adjusted numbers.

Small and medium-sized businesses, defined as those with fewer than 500 workers, posted a gain of 124,000, keeping in line with growth trends in that sector during the past six months.

The goods-producing sector posted a loss of 22,000 jobs, while large business lost 18,000 and manufacturing dropped 15,000, according to ADP.

The company said the numbers were in line with the average growth of 101,000 during the last three months. Top of page
