Legislation that would overhaul the federal agency in charge of consumer product safety is making it way through Congress, according to published reports.
A bill that would boost the budget and staff at the Consumer Product Safety Commission, as well as increase fines for safety violations, is working its way through the Senate, according to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.
Efforts to strengthen the CSPC come after a slew of product recalls, ranging from toys to tires.
The legislation faces opposition from manufacturers, retailers and Nancy Nord, the chairwoman of the CSPC, according to the reports.
