Retail earnings in focusStock futures slightly higher as investors await earnings from Wal-Mart, Home Depot.LONDON (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stock futures edged higher Tuesday morning as investors awaited quarterly earnings from key retailers Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Wal-Mart (Charts, Fortune 500), the world's largest retailer, and Home Depot (Charts, Fortune 500) are both slated to release their results ahead of the market open. The results will offer a closer look at the health of the consumer, which fuels about two-thirds of the U.S. economy. Also on tap is a report on pending home sales, which will provide the latest on the battered housing market. Other stocks in the news included E*Trade (Charts), whose shares plunged 59 percent on Monday after an analyst said the company was at risk of bankruptcy. In global trade, major markets in Asia finished mostly lower and stocks in Europe fell in morning trade. |
