The C30's back seats are decently roomy for a two-door, and access is easy despite the lack of back doors. Pull up the front seat handle to flip it forward then pull forward some more to slide the seat on its rails. Then you can just step right in.

The front seats are also comfortable, and controls are nicely laid out. Like the outside of the car from the windshield forward, the C30 shares its interior layout with Volvo's other smaller models. Controls are nicely laid out in a classically understated Scandinavian style for a look that is easy on the eyes.

It's easy to fall in love with Volvo's famous waterfall center control area, but there's a reason most car companies don't hollow out the back of the "center stack" and use that space for storage. You can't see what you put back there, and you have to feel around gracelessly for your CDs or your cell phone or whatever it was you tossed back there.

There's a good amount of cargo space behind the back seats. They also fold flat for more stuff.

That full-glass tailgate that gives the car a wide-open look from the outside doesn't help visibility much on the inside. That's because the back seats have full-sized headrests to protect occupants from breaking the glass in case of a rear collision.

NEXT: Quick but smooth
