Located just south of St. Louis, Arnold began a major redevelopment campaign about four years ago. In that time, the city has seen many vacant properties replaced by national retailers such as Lowe's, PetSmart and Wal-Mart. Last year, Jefferson College unveiled a new Arnold campus twice the size of the one it replaced.
The town's park system covers about 400 acres and offers three swimming pools and a fishing lake. Three-bedroom homes here average about $205,000. --B.B.
