Nissan's Leaf up close

Creating an electric car posed a lot of challenges, such as where to put 480 pounds of batteries. Nissan's stylists came up with a design that is both futuristic and functional.

The battery is the heart of the electric car. The Leaf is powered by 48 battery modules like this one, each one containing four cells. Nissan believes its lithium-ion chemistry provides unique advantages in cooling and space utilization.
