Unemployment rate: 7.4%
2010 GDP: $45 billion
Median household income: $58,198

Economists are predicting 2012 will be a decent year for Alaska's oil, mining and fishing industries, but overall economic growth is likely to be sluggish.

The state unemployment rate is a full percentage point lower than the national average, and its population is fairly small, earning it only 3 electoral votes in the general election.

Due to its voters' lean to the right though, the state has a disproportionate say in determining the Republican nominee, with 27 delegates up for grabs.
