Two California residents pleaded guilty after creating more than 240 counterfeit checks made to look like U.S. Treasury checks, California state unemployment checks and disability insurance checks.

Then they recruited meth addicts throughout the Los Angeles area to cash the checks at 66 different businesses.

They made fake IDs for the cash checkers, using names and addresses from stolen mortgage applications. Then they split the proceeds with the check cashers.
