Score another one for fossil fuels. As in many of the fastest-growing states, mining drove Oklahoma's 2013 growth, with coal accounting for most of the increases.

Last year, the state produced more than one million tons of coal from deposits in the northwest of the Sooner state. Mining jobs have also been growing, and overall, unemployment in the state is low, at only 4.6%.
