(FORTUNE Magazine) – Linda Wachner was poised to become chief executive of Revlon's cosmetic unit if her financial backers could wrest it from Pantry Pride, which took over Revlon last fall (FORTUNE, January 6). The case is still in litigation, but ; Wachner has gone on to other battles. Wachner, 40, a tough former president of Max Factor, recently won control of Warnaco (1985 sales: $591 million), a Bridgeport, Connecticut, clothing manufacturer, where she once worked as vice president of intimate apparel. As chief executive, she plans to turn Warnaco into ''the foremost apparel conglomerate in the world.'' Wachner teamed up with Spectrum Group, an Encino, California, investment company.
