Flashy Update Nikon CoolPix 995
By Peter Lewis

(FORTUNE Magazine) – We loved the Nikon CoolPix 990 digital camera for its innovative swiveling-lens design, its impressive 3.34-megapixel image quality, and its nice balance of point-and-shoot simplicity (for beginning digital photographers) and feature-rich controls (for more advanced shooters). Now Nikon is back with a new model, the CoolPix 995, which inherits all the good features from the 990 plus some new ones: a pop-up flash to reduce red-eye, a 4X zoom lens that is the equivalent of a 38mm-to-152mm lens on a 35mm camera, and a Type II CompactFlash card slot for adding high-capacity storage options. What don't we like about the new model? Nikon has switched to a rechargeable lithium ion battery instead of handy AA's. It's a small quibble for an otherwise welcome upgrade.
