(FORTUNE Magazine) – New York natives and visitors craving more criticism will soon have another guide to turn to. In November, Michelin will make its U.S. debut with a New York City restaurant guide containing bons mots on about 500 Gotham restaurants and 50 hotels. Long the foodie bible in Europe (only 50 restaurants in the world have its coveted three-star rating), the Guide Rouge will go toe-to-toe with the vox populi--driven Zagat guides. So what can you expect from the new book? Among other things, a less colloquial style and reviews by a small and strictly anonymous professional staff (five of whom are currently eating their way through the Apple). Here's how Zagat and Michelin stack up. -- Kate Bonamici
