(FORTUNE Magazine) – With a dizzying array of new skyscrapers (and a lack of strict zoning laws), Bangkok is the destination for high-altitude outdoor tippling. There are two worthy stops for travelers: Sky Bar and Sirocco restaurant, on the 63rd floor of Bangkok's State Tower, which opened in 2003 and features live jazz in a setting reminiscent of Blade Runner, and the Moon Bar and Vertigo restaurant on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel (which finished an expansion in July). Call it thrilling or terrifying, but both places have only a waist-high barrier to separate you from the stunning 360-degree views--and the 600-plus-foot drops. At Vertigo recently a mix of locals and business travelers were dining on dishes like Phuket lobster in tamarind sauce, while across a narrow walkway a fashionable, mostly Thai crowd sampled specialty cocktails such as the Moon Romance, a fruity concoction served over dry ice.
