Event Extends Company’s Leadership in China’s Consumer Fashion Market

NEW YORK, Feb. 03, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- JD.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:JD), China's largest online direct sales company, today announced it will host a runway show during New York Fashion Week this month that will highlight the unique creations of leading up-and-coming designers in China’s fashion scene and underscore JD.com’s growing strength in the Chinese apparel market.

Following the success of the JD Fashion Show during Milan Fashion Week last fall, JD.com again collaborated with the Milan-based Europe Design Center to choose five China-based designers deserving of a wider platform to share their talents more broadly.

“We are thrilled to help raise the profile of some of the most innovative names in Chinese design with participants of New York’s renowned Fashion Week,” said Lijun Xin, President of JD.com’s Apparel and Home Furnishing Business Unit. “Not only do we have the pleasure of helping to celebrate a talented group of designers at our show, we are also able to offer their new collections to our 132 million customers in China, where shoppers are increasingly interested in the latest fashions and eager to buy them from the most trusted, reliable e-commerce site in the country.”

Designer Maurizio Pecoraro, Creative Director of Europe Design Center, and Mario Boselli, Honorary President of Europe Design Center, collaborated to develop the JD Fashion Runway Show’s “New Romantic” theme, help designers choose their works, and provide additional support for the event.

The five designers participating in the show are:

  • Alicia Lee, whose “Alicia Lee” line combines modern, elegant simplicity and meticulously detailed bold ideas, with retro elements to create unique concepts;

  • Gioia Pan, with her self-owned brand “Gioia Pan,” focuses mainly on delicately hand-made designs that combine traditional fashion machinery with hand-knit skills;

  • Ruiping Guo, whose unique designs showcase significant attention to detail and unusual, vibrant colors;

  • International soccer star Tim Cahill, who currently plays for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League and the Australian national football team, designs clothing that combine a youthful style with exceptional levels of comfort;

  • Chi Zhang, with his self-owned brand “Chi Zhang,” combines street culture and elegance to create a completely singular sense of fashion.

JD.com’s February 17 fashion show will take place at Pier 59 in New York City’s Chelsea Piers.
